I was a boy in Pennsylvania and Florida when the space program started. I was nine years old when Neil Armstrong and then many others walked on the moon.
Early 2016 I was considering going to a local house concert with Mare Wakefield and Nomad. I was listening to the Mare Wakefield video playlist from concertsinyourhiome.com while reorganizing my computer/music room. When this song came up in the playlist, I stopped in my tracks and sat down to listen, after replaying this video seven times I knew I had to learn it. It's a perfect song to accompany a yoga flow class.

Mare Wakefield and Nomad - The First Poet On The Moon
Words and music by Mare Wakefield and Kate Klim (Maresie Music, BMI)
[C] The first poet on the [G] moon, Looked up and saw the [Fmaj7/C] earth rise [C]
Kinda like a [Fmaj7/C] sunrise [C] , In shades of green and [G] blue
Just like your eyes, and she didn’t have a [Fmaj7/C] speech planned [C]
She didn’t have a [Fmaj7/C] flag to plant [C], She came there for the [G] view
And she [C] knew, knew that words would never [G] do
Not when everything that’s [Am] true was a million miles a [Fmaj7/C] way
So she [C] learned, to see the world and watch it [G] turn
While we spin and while we [Am] burn from a million miles a [Fmaj7/C] way
[C] The first poet on the [G] moon, that’s what I felt like [Fmaj7/C] last night [C]
Gazing at the [Fmaj7/C] starlight [C], trying to talk to [G] you
I sent up, My satellites and [Fmaj7/C] rockets [C]
A compass in my [Fmaj7/C] pocket [C] , But am I getting [G] through
And I [C] know, part of life is letting [G] go
But it’s out of my con [Am] trol, when you’re a million miles a [Fmaj7/C] way
So I’ll [C] learn, to see the world and watch it [G] turn
While we spin and while we [Am] burn from a million miles a [Fmaj7/C] way
[C2] Astronauts and scientists, [Fmaj7/C] say we all are made of stardust
[C2] Galaxies inside of us just, [Fmaj7/C] longing for connection
Like we [C] knew, words would never [G] do
When everything that’s [Am] true is a million miles a [Fmaj7/C] way
So we [C] learn, to see the world and watch it [G] turn
While we spin and while we [Am] burn from a million miles a [Fmaj7/C] way
You’re a million miles away [Cadd9] , you’re a million miles away [G]
You’re a million miles away [Am]
[Fmaj7/C] And I’m a poet on the [C] moon
